Abstract:
The subject of this thesis is Divan by Hasan Rıza Efendi, one of the nineteenth century Ottoman poets. The main aim is to present and analyze the Divan in terms of form and content, with some information about Hasan Rıza's life and his literary personality. Finally the thesis also aims to analyze the "Mystical Concepts" in Divan. Hasan Rıza was born in İstanbul in 1849. He gained his reputation as a calligrapher and therefore he was mentioned in the various references as such. He spent his life teaching calligraphy at the Muzıka-i Humayun and acting as an imam. He died in 1920 in Rumeli, İstanbul. Divan is his only literary work known to us. The thesis basically consists of two parts. In the first part, Divan is examined in terms of its form and content. The content is studied in two parts, religious elements and the "Mystical Concepts". In the first part, the use of prophets, Quranic verses, hadiths and religious personalities as decribed by Hasan Rıza is examined. In the second part "Mystical Concepts" are evaluated, since Hasan Rıza uses these concepts largely in his Divan. As a result, it is intented to present the Divan of Hasan Rıza for further studies, which is rarely referred in literary sources.
