Özet:
In this thesis, I examine the novel Amat (2005) by İhsan Oktay Anar in the context of myth building. As the first stage of my examining, the myths as they are used within the novel and their original versions are compared in terms of uses of the theme, and motifs. By doing this, the thesis aims to show how myths are used to help building the plot and overall structure of the novel. Myths in the novel also become a different ground from history for creating the story and narrating the past by questioning social discourses, values and ideals including history writing. In this study, I argue that Anar’s work questions the concept of the official history and utilizes myths in order to understand and narrate a past untold outside the perspective of this history. It is also seen in this novel that the writer put forward his opinions on the contemporary issues.
