Abstract:
In this thesis, we study the placement mechanism used for matching eight grade students and high schools in Turkey. We observe that the mechanism does not satisfy the most desirable properties such as individual rationality, strategy-proofness, respecting improvement, non-wastefulness, and faimess. In order for the system to have the desired properties, students must be able to present their original pref erences. However, in the current system, this is not possible due to pref erence restrictions. Our approach is to improve the students' welf are by redesigning the mechanism.
