Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is the realization of a M6800 based extendable, self contained microcomputer system. A microcomputer is a microprocessor together with a memory and input/output channels for communication with the outside world. The designed system is modular thus allowing it to be extendable and user flexible. Miriimum system cost is the primary goal. To achieve this goal an architecture is required that is both simple and flexible. With 8 bit instruction format, systems requiring 1024 bytes of memory or less are possible. So, an 8 bit architecture is chosen. This yields maximum performance consistent with interface pin constraints and is compatible with I/O requirements. One and four bit organizations unduly restrict range of potential applications. Sixteen or more, bit, exceed single chip constraints or impose need for multiplexed word transfer. The developed system can be used for data processing, automatic control, proceis control, small scale business applications, special dedicated purposes. A monitor program ii prepared so that the system can start itself when power is turned on.
