dc.description.abstract In this study, I basically try to contribute to discussions related to gender and critical masculinity studies by means of the literary texts. In this context, I follow the concept of hegemonic masculinity developed by Australian sociologist R. W. Connell in Murathan Mungan’s stories. I scrutinize the topics that Mungan frequently uses, such as the relationship between power and masculinity, the different types/forms of masculinity, the synthetic masculinity/femininity roles constructed by sexist socio-cultural mechanisms, the heteronormative cultural structure and its homophobic discourse and practices with the techniques of content analysis and close reading. In addition to this contextual analysis, I also examine both the linguistic/stylistic features of the texts, including the traditional/modern narrative techniques used by the author. In this way, this thesis gathers literature and sociology with an interdisciplinary approach.
