dc.description.abstract In this thesis four novels by Ahmet Mithat are examined in their socialdimensions. Along with the social dimensions of Ahmet Mithat̕s novels, in theirbackground, these questions are investigated: To what extent do these novels fit the rules of the detective novel? Do they provide anything new for this genre? Indeed, itwas observed that without abandoning his views as a novelist, but at the same timeusing the particular characteristics of detective novels Ahmet Mithat wrote novelsthat essentially criticized the system and were similar to modern detective novels. These novels by Ahmet Mithat are of importance for the detective novel genrebecause his understanding of justice and punishment, within the context of Islamicepistemology, reflects the society of his time.
