dc.description.abstract In this study, perceptions of inmate participants of prison education programs are investigated. It explores the views of inmates participating in educational activities in prisons in terms of their evaluations of their educational experiences, the effect of these programs on their lives in prison, and the expected contributions of these educational activities on their future plans after being released. Also, the relationship between inmates’ demographic characteristics and their perceptions about programs are determined. The results indicate that they generally express positive perceptions about their involvement with their prison education programs. Most of the inmates are motivated by personal interests and the minority of them participated by suggestions of others. Prison education has been a positive influence in their lives. The development of selfconfidence and increased positive feelings, and attaining future goals as well as learning were apparent. The analysis indicates that there is no relationship between age and the perceptions of inmates. However, there is a relationship between gender and the perceptions of inmates; and also between educational level and the perceptions of inmates.
