dc.description.abstract Missile control methods are briefly outlined, the notation and conventions used in guided missile literature are introduced. A realistic simulation model is formed considering the differential equations governing motion of the missile in plane, the measurement and control system and the intercept geometry. Computer simulations are repeated for various attack geometries and target escape scenarios using both proportional navigation guidance and suboptimal adaptive control. Good missile performance in terms of miss distance is obtained for proportional navigation guidance. Suboptimal adaptive control can be more useful if other performance criteria are important, such as impact angle at target.
