Although microstrip lines have been extensively investigated by a large number of researchers, and their theory and design have been reported in many articles, there is no comprehensive description available at one place. In particular the design information is not readily available. This study is basically intended for presenting a detailed account of these lines. It describes analysis and design of this transmission medium. The features discussed include quasi-static and fullwave analyses, detailed design considerations including CAD and measurement procedures. Particularly, the results of six different approaches given for characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constant calculations are compared with each other and among them, equations giving the nearest values to the results of numerical methods and experiments are used to calculate the other microstrip characteristics. |
