dc.description.abstract The purpose of the thesis is to design and realize the hardware of an intelligent terminal which will also have graphic display possibilities. The system is based on the MC 6809 MOTOROLA's high performance 8-bit microprocessor which supports modern programming techniques and has major architectural improvements other than MC 6800 family microprocessors, such as additional registers, instructions and addressing modes. The terminal hardware has expandable memory capacity up to 58 K bytes, software dependable character set generation, one RS-232 interface with software selectable baud rate generation, four parallel output ports for keyboard and printer interfaces and four outputs for expansion cards such as a floppy disk controller unit. The design is not only an intelligent terminal but with its hardware features and a powerful basic interpreter software that should be written, it can be used as a self contained microcomputer system.
